Dublin Entrepreneurial Center Moving to Metro Place

The award-winning Dublin Entrepreneurial Center (DEC) will move to a new location this fall where it will share space with the City of Dublin’s successful IT-focused TechDEC, which launched earlier this year at Metro Data Center, located at 565 Metro Place South. This move is being made to accommodate Ohio University’s acquisition of the existing DEC building at 7003 Post Road where it will establish a new branch of the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

At its Aug. 20 meeting, Dublin City Council approved a five-year lease agreement with Metro Data Center LLC. Dublin Economic Development staff had reviewed several options to house the DEC, which includes the Green Integrator and the Dublin International Business Assistance Center, before recommending the agreement with Metro Data Center. Other options included the purchase of an office building and a master lease on a facility.

“A public-private partnership with Metro Data Center became the clear choice when evaluating cost, responsibility, risk profile and length of commitment,” said Deputy City Manager/Director of Economic Development Dana McDaniel. “By bringing together all the DEC brands under one roof in a vibrant office park setting, we strengthen the businesses-to-business interaction, training resources, amenities and way-finding opportunities for local entrepreneurs.”

Metro Data Center also partnered with Dublin on the TechDEC and is the City’s data center service provider. The City of Dublin currently has two IT staff members located there, along with its primary network operations and data warehousing. Metro Data Center also serves as a point of presence, or POP, for the City’s DubLink fiber network.

The DEC’s new space includes more than 10,000 square feet, adjacent to the 13,000-square-foot TechDEC space and an additional 1,200-square-foot training space on the first floor of the building. As part of the DEC agreement, Metro Data Center has agreed to provide flexibility with lease terms, which can be a key consideration for start-up companies. The City’s cost for the lease will average $183,800 per year.
“We believe this is the business acceleration model of the future,” said Rob Kopp, president and COO of Metro Data Center. “By providing affordable, first-class, high-tech office spaces and conference rooms adjacent to a high-tier data center setting, we are helping to build an environment where businesses can grow and thrive in the global marketplace.”

Metro Data Center currently hosts nearly 70 office spaces and a sizable number of cubicles and hotspots. In addition, more amenities are available to tenants, including onsite management, training, furnishings, receptionist services, highly advanced security systems and Wi-Fi, as well as access to a variety of broadband service providers, walking paths and restaurants.

“We are proud to support the City of Dublin’s mission to create new businesses and jobs in our community,” said Niles Overly, chairman and CEO of Metro Data Center. “Our vast business experience over the past 30 years has focused primarily on providing large-scale infrastructure and managed services to businesses in multiple countries and now we are bringing those same business and data center solutions to the small and medium-size business markets within Dublin and Central Ohio.”

DEC tenants are expected to move to the new facility by December with an open house being planned for January.
