Testimonials

“We performed a site audit at the new site for Metro Data Center in early 2012. We found that the site had several attributes that are a ‘must have’ for a reliable data center. Positive electrical characteristics include: A dual bus (2N) active utility power path from the building service entrance to the data center floor mounted power distribution units. The existing Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) are centralized multi-module systems that can be upgraded to twice their capacity From a mechanical standpoint, Metro Data Center’s advantages include: The data center white space has ample cooling capacity for their projected equipment loads. This capacity includes redundant (N+1) air handlers. The UPS Room has redundant (N+1) air handlers. Metro is deploying containment doors on their cold aisles to improve cooling efficiencies for the higher density equipment areas. The data center white space is protected by both a pre-action sprinkler and an FM-200 clean agent fire suppression system. These positive attributes are complemented by Metro Data Center’s personnel who are committed to creating a solid data center facility infrastructure.” ~Jackie Kershaw, Vice President of Engineering TECHnology SITE Planners

American Electric Power serves the facility with two separate 277/480 volt services. The two sources originate from separate substations, with each substation having redundancy. The two sources are routed to the facility using two unique/diverse routes. ~ Anthony J. Greve, CEM, Customer Services Engineer AEP Ohio

Two Substations provide “Power to MDC”!

Metro Data Center is capable of providing Fully Redundant (2N) Active Active Power to all of their Data Center Customers.

American Electric Power provides MDC power from (Two) independent, fully engineered and supported Sub-Stations for full power redundancy.

Electrical wiring and provisioning are supplied by two unique and diverse routes.

MDC surpasses most Data Centers in providing this “High Level” of service capability.

Dual Transformers, Dual Switch Gear and Dual 625 KVA-UPS Systems, Capable of being upgraded to
twice their current capacityand are all autonomous in supplying (2N) power into
the Data Center.

Dual Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors or (TVSS) units also filter power. The purpose of a TVSS is to eliminate damage to data processing equipment and other critical equipment by limiting transient (surge) voltages and currents (surges) on electrical circuits, including lighting strikes, elevators, heating, air conditioning,
refrigeration or other inductive loads.

MDC also provides power through the use of their Two Megawatt Diesel Power Generation Systems, with fuel live capabilities. This supplies backup power to one or both legs of power using autonomous and redundant transfer switch gear.

Liebert Control Systems environmentally monitor and manage 24x7x365 with automated controls throughout the entire power and cooling infrastructure.

MDC also carries (SLA) service level support throughout their entire infra-
structure.

Here is a quote from AEP:

American Electric Power serves the facility with two separate 277/480 volt services. The two sources originate from separate substations, with each substation having redundancy. The two sources are routed to the facility using two unique diverse routes.

TechDEC at Metro Data Center

“Technology companies have traditionally been very silo based”, says Rob Kopp President and COO of Metro Data Center. This is a new concept that makes perfect sense. We are bringing technology companies together in an environment that promotes health and growth and it shouldn’t be a surprise that this concept is effective
and catching on.

Through our Partnership with the City of Dublin, we already have nearly (30) thirty companies located within the TechDEC.

These companies provide talented resources and share a vision of entrepre-neurism that is unmatched in the marketplace. Each month we will highlight a company that resides in the TechDEC spaces.

Office Suites and Hot Seats are available.

Data Center Security Features!

Metro Data Center, selects “Honeywell” as their Security Systems provider. These systems are completely integrated and provide video surveillance, the latest in full hand scan biomet-rics, interior and exterior recorded Infra-red cameras to secure their premises.

Our integrated security system components provide (N+1) security system features for full redundancy, by providing backup systems of their all security features. Physical security access into Facilities and Data Center require the satisfaction of mufti-factor authentication. multi-factor authentication includes, Personal Identification Badges, Personal Security Codes and Full Hand Biometrics to ensure Physical Security. Within the Data Center, “Medeco tm” Highly Secured locking Systems are provided to secure your individual Rack Space.

Our Security systems are also fully maintained and supported by Koorsen Security.

Cloud Computing. The next wave of technology. How can your business benefit?

Rob Kopp, President and COO of Metro Data Center joined Ron Landthorn, Director of Platform Lab, TechColumbus and Dave Wilkeson, COO at DRS, LLC for a panel discussion with Columbus Business First to discuss the benefits of cloud computing. Click here to go directly to the article.

What is cloud computing? According to Rob, “it’s a platform where IT resources can be pooled, shared, and served. It’s just a flexible way of keeping data.”

The 5 top benefits to Cloud Computing:

1. Cost

First and foremost: no in-house equipment. Depending on the size of a company, there are different needs for data processing and storage. Cloud computing allows companies to only buy what they need at the time and gives them the ability to expand in the future without investing in additional in-house equipment.

2. Security

Many companies are worried about not having complete control of their servers thereby making themselves more susceptible to security breaches. Cloud computing actually makes servers more secure. Especially regional clouds like Metro Data Center can perform 70 security audits as many as four times a year. Companies should always be knowledgeable about their data storage – keeping up is just that much easier with cloud computing.

3. Connectivity and Speed

Data Centers such as MDC are focusing on multiple connectivity and using fiber networks. According to Mr. Kopp, with cloud computing “speed of business is quicker, it’s faster, it’s more agile.” For a business to roll out infrastructure, it could take 45-90 days with onsite equipment. With a cloud, it could take a week.

4. Variety

These experts know that with any new technology, companies want to take it slow. The norm for companies right now is to do a “hybrid” model. Depending on the size and needs of a company, they can implement a combination of cloud computing, private in-house equipment and equipment stored at a data center. Eventually, the goal, especially for smaller companies should be to have not in-house equipment at all, but until that day comes, there are options to put everyone at ease.

5. Ability to be on the Go

According to the panel, things are changing in technology due to the “influence of virtualization.” We all see it in our personal lives. We use our phones as cameras, computers and telephones. We don’t read paper books or newspapers. The future of computing equipment is a combination of tablet with a docking station for your laptop. Or something we haven’t even envisioned. Anything that will allow us to be on the go, but still connected.

Cloud computing is one step toward that future.

Bob Schaber, Network Operations Manager, and Brad Jones, Network Engineer, both with the City of Dublin Information Technology Department, moved to the Metro Data Center and TechDEC this week.

“We are pleased to have access to these outstanding data center facilities,” said Schaber. “Now we can consolidate our data with plenty of room for growth.”

Being located in office space at the TechDEC, at the same location as the secure, high tier data center, is a large attraction to this facility, according to the Dublin IT team and other business owners moving into the TechDEC.

Access to data center space with scalable fiber optic network capabilities allows organization such as the City of Dublin to look at new projects and to take advantage of new growth opportunities.

Metro Data Center is also the main provider for the DubLINK broadband system.

The TechDEC, co-located with Metro Data Center, has 18 charter companies in addition to the City of Dublin. See the full list of charter companies.

For more information about data center services, contact Rob Kopp, COO, Metro Data Center.
