metrodata-serversMetro Data Center, LLC has identified physical security at the forefront of our site considerations. During the process of reviewing the facility for usage as a colocation facility and the Technology DEC, several considerations were identified. These considerations include but are not limited to safety for our clients, safety of our infrastructure, and in the case of an event; we must have court acceptable logging substantial enough to prove access within the site.

Design of the new security system was performed by an industry leading security group working in conjunction with our infrastructure experts at Metro Data Center. For implementation of the security system, we again used the same industry leading security firm for the entire system as described below. Below are a few highlights of the newly built security system.

Physical Security Access System

The physical security access system implemented at the Metro Data Center site includes the following components.

  • 24/7/365 access to the Data Center and TechDEC spaces
  • System is maintained and supported 24/7 by Metro Data Center staff and includes vendor support for all components.
  • System is manufactured by industry leading security firm Honeywell, implemented and supported by local security specialist firm.
  • Physical Access System is secured within non-customer accessible area within the Metro Data Center facility.
  • Dedicated hard wired security access system protected by multiple entry point requirements for access.
  • Log files are kept on and offsite in an encrypted manner for a defined length of time.
  • Biometric (State of the art full palm readers) access to high security areas within the facility.
  • Two factor authenticated access for all areas within the facility.
  • Photo ID system for visual badge confirmation while in the Space.
  • Data Center Racks are equipped with customer specific physical keys directly provided from manufacturer.
  • Some data center tenants will choose and have the opportunity for biometric access to their server cabinets.

Closed Circuit TV System

Closed Circuit Television is the designation generally accepted for all closed camera surveillance systems. The CCTV system implemented at MDC includes the following components.

  • 24/7/365 coverage of the Data Center and TechDEC spaces (All entrances are covered).
  • System is maintained and supported 24/7 by Metro Data Center staff and includes vendor support for all components.
  • System is manufactured by industry leading security firm Honeywell, implemented and supported by local security specialist firm.
  • CCTV System is secured within non-customer accessible area within the Metro Data Center facility.
  • CCTV system is integrated directly with the physical access system for seem less chain of custody logging including video playback.
  • Cameras are located throughout facility and external grounds to cover Metro Data Center infrastructure.
  • In areas of low-light, cameras include IR emitters to allow for proper visibility.
  • Some CCTV components are remotely accessible and will be available for customer interaction on an as requested process by Metro Data Center. (remote viewing for Data Center space)

Summary

The security system within the Metro Data Center space has been designed and implemented in 2012 with significant investment for considerations mentioned above. The intention of the security systems are designed to provide the safest working environment for customers and their infrastructure.
